Features of an undisputable Center

In professional leagues such as the NBA, the center is considered a necessary component of a
successful team.

The center is generally the tallest player who is positioned near the basket as he must be able to get up as high as possible for rebounds. He is also required to be more physically domineering with more physical strength and overall athleticism. For these reasons, he’s frequently the most important man on the floor.

Generally, centers are the focal point of the offense and can facilitate every other player’s offensive game with solid screens and crisp passing.

The center´s goal is to get open for a pass and to shoot. They are required to block defenders, and to open other players up for driving to the basket for a goal. These guys are expected to get some offensive rebounds and put-backs.

He should be good at making quick jump shots, hook shots, and use the backboard on his shots. Also, must know how to find the open player in the paint and grab offensive rebounds. About defensive, the center´s primary responsibility is to keep/block opponents from shooting by blocking shots and passes in the key area. When the game is on because they´re taller, so they often get more rebounds.

A center who has quick feet and a strong upper body (which are part of the necessary feature of a good center) can dominate the low block and open up the entire offense for everyone else. However, the center might be more instrumental on defense:

He must be able to block shots and intimidate players flashing into the paint which can change the entire game and put the team on a winning edge. A good center must have the ability to guard the opposing center and provide help when other offensive players attack the basket.

However, in many cases, some of the best centers are not necessarily tallest the guy on the floor (Dwight Howard’ height is 6′ 11″ and is one of the best NBA’s centers), even some of the tallest players aren’t centers.
